Surf Avenue, (Formerly My Arrow of Light) written and performed by Stephen Axelrod, is both a delicate comedy and as a hard assessment of the tough space between dreams and fruition. In this one man show, the author takes the audience on a trip from his tough childhood in Queens, to life in the Marine Corps, to an insider's place on the New York Stock Exchange and even to the set of "Law and Order". Along the way, he finds both mentors and tormentors who seem to conspire to bring him to a final confrontation with the inner demons that keep him from realizing his dreams to be an actor. As the author revisits the site of an accident that symbolized his troubled past, he finally sees his way toward wholeness. The play is a memoir of life that moves from confusion to light. |
